Brendan takes the plunge
Brendan landing elegantly

And then he hops down on one knee....
And produces a ring....

Yes! I will!

Yes! I will!
A great skydive!

A perfect ending (or beginning) - Cairns
December 2010
Even though we have officially finished with our Australian travels blog site, we now have an exciting new addendum to add….
At 8:00am this morning (27th December), Linda was woken by Brendan and told to hop up and get ready, we were going to pick up her Xmas present (a surprise sky dive!) Linda’s reaction – “Oooh really? Great! But I’m really scared…I don’t know about this…” This turned out not to be the only surprise Brendan had in mind….
At 14 000 feet up in the air, strapped to two different skydive instructors, Brendan finally (after eight years!) asked Linda to take a different sort of plunge and proposed, to which Linda replied, “Really???” (followed by a rapid yes).
With no more time to talk about it, we were both then thrown from the plane and plummeted 9000 feet (60 second free fall) followed by another 5000 feet underneath a parachute. Once on the ground, Brendan had a ring ready (New Zealand greenstone until we are able to go shopping together) and it became official…We are now engaged!
Take a look at the photos and short video clip below to see how the story unfolded. Some of you already know, but we thought this would be a good way to share the end of our story of two and a half years travelling (and the beginning of our next story) with all of you – our friends and rellies.
Love Linda and Brendan. xxoo.
P.S.
We are definitely off to Darwin in early January – when the roads open for us to drive across from Cairns (at the moment due to all the rain in QLD they are actually closed). Brendan has a six month finance contract with the Tiwi Islands Shire Council (based in Darwin). Linda has also taken a 12 month contract with the NT Department of Education and Training as a Project Officer, supporting Early Childhood Centres and Preschools with the new National Framework for Early Childhood Education coming in over the next year. This is also based in Darwin with some travel required. We are both really pleased.
Hope everyone had a safe and a happy Xmas and have a wonderful new year in 2011!
