20. Nearly time to head home - views over Port Douglas main beach with Linda's family
Here we are back in Katherine and back at work after a week of being on holidays (again) in Port Douglas, North Queensland, for Justin and Em’s wedding (Linda’s little brother). If we count being on the plane and flying over the top of it, we have now completed a full half circuit of Australia in the last 12 months. We thought we would be finished by now, but it has taken us that long to make it half way!
We packed up our whole little camp in Katherine last Monday, went to work on Tuesday and then drove the now familiar stretch of the Stuart Highway back up to Darwin where we parked up the bushcamper with friends and headed to the airport at 3:30am for a nice early 5:05am flight across to Cairns! We were met at the airport by Linda’s parents and spent the first night in Cairns, with Brendan off to play golf with the boys and Linda off to a girl’s hens morning tea. We then drove on up to Port Douglas where we spent the next four nights catching up with all of Linda’s rellies and doing wedding type things – eating lots (including a roast dinner cooked in an oven – which we haven’t been able to do since Christmas time), sleeping in real beds, showering in bare feet and shopping! (I discovered that camping clothes worn for the last twelve months while living in the dirt look fine when you are living in the dirt, but they don’t hold up so well when mixing with the resort crowd up in Port Douglas! :))
The wedding was held at the beautiful seaside chapel (St Mary’s by the sea) in the morning, followed by a casual lunch reception on the wharf over the water, just behind the chapel. The weather was beautiful (though we found it slightly cool after getting used to the temperatures of the NT), the finger type food was delicious (and nothing resembled sausages, lamb chops or boiled potatoes), and the bride and groom looked great. See all the photos above for details. The lunch was followed by another easy dinner at the hotel across the road, where we ate entrees only, after still being full up from lunch! :) Justin and Emily were around for a couple of days afterwards to finish catching up with everyone, and are currently on honeymoon down around the Great Ocean Road area in Victoria. We had a lovely time Justin and Em – thanks for everything and it was great to catch up with rellies we have not seen for ages - many who have been following our travels through the blog site.
We spent another couple of days relaxing in Port Douglas, then headed back down to Cairns for our flight back to Darwin and then drive even further onto Katherine again. We were lucky to get our favourite campsite back and then headed straight on back to work. This weekend we have been feeling slightly tired and have done little apart from the washing, sleeping and reading. We are waiting now to find out more about Brendan’s job situation for over the wet season and make the decision of whether we are staying put up here or moving on down to Perth.
Take care,
Love Linda and Brendan. xox.

Thanks for the update. The photos are great as usual. Glad you had a good time at the wedding as we also did of course. We noted Brendan and Linda rugging up (read long sleeve t-shirt) against the Far North Queensland winter sea-breezes !!
Great to have all the family together for a change.
Lots of love
Mum and Dad.
